what inventions did the aztecs create to help their agriculture and farming?
The Aztecs were one of the first people to be able to build a stable and sustainable civilization. When the Aztecs finally found a good place to settle down in, and start building a civilization. they did so on land near a lake that was rather marshy which meant that the land was not very good for farming. As the population expanded, they needed to find an alternative way to grow more food. They could farm in lands further away, but they would have to send guards there to protect the farms from robbers.
Instead, the witty engineers came up with the brilliant idea of “floating” gardens. These floating gardens resembled rafts that were anchored to the bottom of the lake. They would pile lots of vegetation and reeds on top of the rafts to act as good soil and drainage. they also piled dirt. They planted seeds in the dirt and the gardens were used to farm food like squash, tomatoes, beans, chili peppers and corn.
The Aztecs and chocolate
Mexico is the country to thank for introducing chocolate to the world. Although the Aztecs created it, it was also extremely valued in the Mayan culture it was actually used as currency. The Aztecs also valued the cacao bean very highly, and used it as part of tribute. Then the Aztecs created something that took a big step into history, xocoatl meaning bitter water, which was similar to the drinks the Mayans had created before them. It was a spicy hot chocolate drink that was very popular with the upper classes. It was a mix of chilies, cacao beans, corn flour and water. and then with the pass of time chocolate was created thanks to the aztecs.
What did the Aztecs create that we still use in our daily lives?
chewing gum was created at least 5000 years ago, but the Aztecs were the first civilization to revolutionize it into chicle, which is the base choice still today. First it was made for antiseptic and medical reasons then its main purpose became for just eating. Chicle was originally created to be a replacement for rubber but it failed, and was turned into chewing gum
